REFLECTION

 Experience

At the start of the semester, Typography served as a challenge to me as the classes started off fast-paced where many information was given in a short amount of time. I, who have little experience in the field of design, initially struggled slightly in keeping up with the classes as well as the assignments. However, the class materials were organized well in which it was easy to access to information that may help in completing the assignments. Sufficient evaluations was also provided so I was able to monitor my own progress well. This assisted me in catching up with class and progress through my assignments smoothly. Moreover, I have gained valuable experiences related to type design as well as improved my technical skills in design.

 Observation

Throughout the semester, I have noticed great improvement in my sense of detail. Typography includes the design of the letterform itself as well as the formatting of composition of text which is highly challenging as there are many factors put into a good typographic design. The meticulous process that goes into every typographic design has taught me the impact it has on the aesthetic and readability of a composition. I have became more detail-oriented as well as improved my experience in discerning a good design from a bad design.

 Findings

Prior to this semester, I was not familiar with the subject of typography and how it has a great influence towards out surroundings. One of the most significant realizations during this semester is the importance that typography holds in conveying meaning in which each stroke and arrangement can influence the way a message is perceived by the audience. The interaction between typefaces, sizes, kerning and hierarchy allowed the creation of a visually engaging design which may achieve effective communication. Hence, I have realized that every small detail influences the experience of a viewer in which I greatly appreciate the craftsmanship of designers all over the world that created such impactful designs.
